This was Abigail’s third litter. She is from old California working lines with a lot of cattle influence and is a very great natural herder with lovely instinct and balance. She is very responsive to her handler, has a great sense of group, and keeps a very cool head when working livestock. Aside from herding, she is a fully public access trained retired service dog, competes in barn hunt and rally, has dabbled in lure coursing, dock diving, and loves to play disc. She is a wonderful partner in anything we do, from hiking miles of wilderness to being a demo dog to living full time in a van. I would have another 10 Abigail’s if I could.
Marley is a Border Collie from a pure working line. He is trained to trial class 3 and works regularly on a farm that keeps cattle and sheep. His tasks include catching up sheep, driving them to new areas, bringing them out of the stable to the meadow or loading them onto the trailer for transport and many other activities. Sometimes he also helps herd the cattle or bring the bulls in and out of the stalls. He has passed the Companion Dog Test, does bikejoring and canicross, and accompanies his human to her work and around their town where his lovely temperament outside working shines. He is a stable, versatile, wonderful example of the breed. His structure is gorgeous despite being a strictly working bred dog. He is a stylish worker and also has natural high hops for disc.
This was my first time using a foreign stud, importing semen, and doing TCI breeding. The intention for this pairing was high drive, collected, capable herding dogs who have stable temperaments and good heads on their shoulders. This litter has a primary focus for herding and working, but is versatile and with good structure. Both parents have wonderful temperaments to make dogs that are easy to live with with proper structure, guidance and expectations.
At one and a half (early 2023), the RPG litter has embodied what I believe Border Collies should be. My keeper pup, Vintage, is very authentic to the breed and is an incredibly trustworthy, reliable, and stable dog. She and most of her littermates are extremely high drive with low arousal. As a whole, the litter is very stable and sound, with good temperaments and drive, versatility, and sweet affectionate nature. In the wrong hands, due to their drive and tenacity, they could easily run roughshod on a home. They need a calm, firm handler and clear expectations/communication. They need a job! See our Updates page for any new developments on the litter.
