I’m very excited to be planning a repeat of Vintage’s pairing to Pete, with the Wines litter due January 17th. This is a pairing that produces very true to type working Border Collies with excellent brains, strong instincts, and very high drive. Having now raised and watched the Beans litter mature and settle into their homes, this repeat is being done with confidence and intention and hopes to produce a few boys, given the last litter was all females.

Vintage herself is an exceptionally stable, old school Border Collie. She is confident, low arousal, naturally driven, and remarkably consistent throughout her development. Despite being one of the highest drive dogs in my home, she is also one of the easiest to live with thanks to her strong off switch and sound temperament. She is serious and purposeful about her work, but doesn't carry that intensity into everyday life. Vintage has always been the picture of stability, even as a young dog, and continues to exemplify the type of Border Collie I strive to produce.

Pete is an accomplished open field herding dog with impressive power, feel, and control on stock, paired with a very biddable and friendly nature off stock. He is confident, affectionate, and carries himself with a calm, thoughtful demeanor while having plenty of personality. His owner refers to him as "Peter Worm" because he is so wiggly and silly! I have had the pleasure of watching Pete work multiple times and have always been impressed not just by his ability on sheep, but by his overall presence and mindset. He has a sound, stable temperament, great toy drive, and a genuine sweetness that makes him a joy to be around. Since the first litter, Pete has continued to show even more depth and versatility. He began training for agility in the summer of 2025 and is already competing and doing exceptionally well, earning titles and demonstrating his athleticism, responsiveness, and drive in a very different venue than herding. Watching him succeed outside of stock work has only reinforced my confidence in him as a sire capable of producing truly versatile dogs.

While both parents are very much working bred and high drive, neither is high arousal, and both have excellent heads on their shoulders. From this pairing, I hope for more puppies with strong natural instincts, plenty of drive and enthusiasm, and the ability to excel in herding, sport, or other performance venues, while still retaining the stability and off switch, particularly as they mature, that makes them good partners in daily life. This pairing is a bit more intense and sharper edged than some of my other litters, and more likely to produce dogs who will challenge their handlers. That said, we are already seeing promising versatility from the first litter, with puppies placed into agility, herding, multi sport, and even a service dog in training. These are dogs meant to be engaged with and given purpose, and they tend to shine when they have clear structure, direction, and a job to do.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing this pairing again and continuing to build on what the first litter showed me.
