Sometimes a litter is so good, you do it twice! The first litter between Mushu and Lapis have been everything I had hoped for and more. At roughly 8 months old when they're little siblings arrive, and they've been doing amazingly in their homes. The litter went far and wide from the US west coast all the way to the eastern side of Canada and are in a variety of sport homes, including dock diving, lure coursing, disc, flyball, barn hunt, with every puppy turning onto every sport and activity thrown their way with eagerness and skill. They are also darling companions with amazing off switches and perfect temperaments; outgoing, bold, friendly, confident, never met a stranger (human or otherwise) type of dogs that love to cuddle up with you on the couch and chill.
The Border Whippet is a lurcher (sighthound mix) created by crossing Border Collies and Whippets. They are a popular, tried and true mix that has been produced for a very long time for a variety of sports and even hunting. There are a lot of advantageous reasons to cross these two breeds, including a relatively similar size and complimentary stature, with the Border Collie adding more robustness and the Whippet bringing the built for speed design. Health wise, it’s a cross that works well, as there aren’t many predispositions to overlapping issues. And the big one, temperament and personality, with the extreme biddability and work ethic of the Border Collie which pair really nicely with the Whippet’s lovely off switch and generally easy to keep attitude.
Lapis is a lovely dog. She loves nothing quite as much as hunting but she’s very safe with small animals in the home and has a perfectly reliable recall, even calling off live courses. She is a great demo dog for our training business and knows a lot of advanced heelwork and tricks, dabbling in a lot of sports, like barn hunt, agility, rally, and fastCAT. The sport Lapis would probably do best in is dock diving, which unfortunately we have not had access to but she absolutely loves water and really turns on whenever she gets to swim, with her favorite game of all time being fetching from the water. She would happily do this all day! Otherwise, she has a little more food drive than toy drive. Around the house, she is the picture of an ideal companion with a wonderful temperament. She’s not pushy or needy, loves to snuggle up with you and relax, and is just so easy to live with. She’s fantastic with dogs, other animals, all sorts of people, and loves children. She would make an excellent therapy dog and has been trained to a very high level for public access. She’s a small girl, weighing just 26lbs.
Mushu will bring a lot of drive, biddability and work ethic to the table. His intensity mixed with her stability is going to make for some awesome dogs! Mushu is very sporty and has impressive physical skills and mental fortitude. He is always willing to try and rarely enters displacement, he’s down to give it his all no matter the circumstance, who’s around, or what’s happening. His top sport would also likely be dock diving or disc. Mushu is like Lapis in his affinity for water but he really puts his all into everything, with swimming being no exception. He’s a consistently driven dog, loves to play, loves disc and is naturally very cooperative. He also loves to tug and play competitively and will shake and thrash with all his might, but if he’s playing with a child (which he loves to do) he tones it down and is super gentle and intuitive with them. He’s a working service dog, task and public access trained, who dabbles in several sports with lots of potential for greatness. He has begun training for competition Obedience in the last couple of months and will debut this year.
We got our two perfect little girls under less than perfect circumstances, but we're so happy they're here. Our smallest litter ever!

When a puppy grows up to be everything you hoped for and more, sometimes the only right answer is to come back for another. That’s exactly what happened with Zia, from the first Mushu x Lapis litter. She has become such a wonderful athlete and partner that her family knew when this repeat cross arrived, they wanted to bring home a sibling too.
From the start, Celaena reminded me so much of Zia with her confidence, sparkle, and people focused nature, but she also has her own personality shining through. She is bold, fun loving and affectionate, with a thoughtful streak that makes her easy to live with and a joy to train. Her tug and toy drive came out right away, and she’s already showing the same love for water that runs in this cross. When we met for the pick up, Cady also brought Zia along and I got to “meet” her again now as a more grown up girl which was lovely.
It is really special to see these two sisters united under the same roof! Cady and Keegan are incredible owners who give their dogs the structure, conditioning, and opportunity to shine in every sport they try. Dock diving is one of their main passions and I have no doubt Celaena will follow Zia into the pool with plenty of firepower of her own.
Her new name is Soleil, and her full name is Open Horizon’s Heir of Fire. She is already settling in with her pack and carving out her place, and I am so excited to watch her grow alongside her big sister!
Thank you to Cady and Keegan for coming back to me for not just one, but now two sisters from this cross. It means the world to see both Zia and Soleil so loved and so full of promise. ❤️🔥

Aelin
From the TOG litter, Aelin has always had a spark. She’s confident, curious, affectionate, brave, and just a happy go lucky little gal. From the start she’s drawn a lot of attention and been a fan favorite with her good looks!
Her journey to her forever home ended up being a bit unexpected, but also so special. My good friend Mary first met her during her puppy start program with Karson, and both she and her family instantly connected with her. They spent time with her, fell in love, and quietly hoped that one day she might become theirs although at this point she was spoken for by someone else. When that ended up changing and the chance came for Aelin to join their family, it couldn’t have been a more perfect fit!
She’s now living the good life on their farm, showered with love by her new family and adoring her human siblings. Dock diving is in her future, alongside plenty of adventures and snuggles.
This placement is especially close to my heart, especially knowing we’ll still get to see Aelin often as she grows up. I couldn’t be happier that Mary and her family are officially part of the OH family, and I know this girl will bring endless joy and memories in the years ahead. Her new name is Elentiya, aka Ellie 🌟 Open Horizon’s Unbreakable Spirit 🌟
