I am so excited to finally welcome the Cheeses, my long awaited first BorderPap litter! From Whimsy and Alta. This litter has been a long time coming and feels incredibly special for my program. Purpose bred mixes are something I approach very thoughtfully, and the BorderPap is a cross I have been especially excited about because of how beautifully Papillons and Border Collies can compliment each other in the right pairing.
The goal for this litter was to produce small, clever, athletic, highly trainable dogs with big personalities, good drive, and a lot of versatility. I was hoping for puppies who would have the biddability, handler focus, and work ethic I love in Border Collies, paired with the portable size, bright enthusiasm, and fun loving nature of the Papillon. These puppies are expected to be wonderful prospects for active and sport homes while still being enjoyable companions in day to day life.
Whimsy is my Papillon boy and a dog I absolutely adore. He is everything I love about the breed: happy, clever, flashy, athletic, and full of charm. He is a small dog with a huge presence and so much enthusiasm for life. Whimsy is human oriented, fun to train, and has the kind of personality that makes everyone fall in love with him. He brings confidence, charisma, toy and food motivation, and a lot of natural spark to the table. He is also very structurally beautiful and very athletic, which is something I value a lot in my Papillons and in sport prospects in general.
Alta is a Border Collie I have long awaited breeding, an Abigail daughter, and I am so grateful to her co-owner Ashley for helping make this litter possible. Alta is a lovely, stable, athletic, and loyal girl with a temperament that made her a really exciting choice for this cross. She brings the Border Collie qualities I most wanted here: biddability, thoughtfulness, work ethic, athleticism, and a desire to engage with her person. She is also a very sweet, sensible dog, with a nice seriousness to her which I was especially excited for a cross like this. I wanted a Border Collie dam who could bring working ability and drive without tipping the puppies into anything frantic or difficult to live with. Alta has also been a wonderful mother. She whelped smoothly and has taken to motherhood beautifully, caring for her puppies with attentiveness and so much love. It has been really special to see her settle into this role, and I could not be more appreciative of the care and love Ashley has given her in her raising to help her become this special dog!
The pups are still very young, so there is a lot left to learn about who each of them will become, but so far I am very happy with what I see. They are bright, engaging, social little puppies with the beginnings of exactly the kind of fun and trainable temperaments I hoped this pairing would produce. And just endlessly sweet and endearing, and likely the cutest litter I've yet to produce!
I expect this litter to grow into clever, athletic, trainable little dogs with a lot of personality and a lot of potential. They should be especially well suited to sport and performance homes who want a smaller dog with drive, trainability, and heart. I cannot wait to watch them continue to grow and see how they develop.
